Heidi's name

We had four different girl's names that were possibilities, but we wanted to see her before deciding. Initially I got the idea of the name Heidi as we were looking through Swedish names. I liked the name because of the book (Heidi) and it kind of stuck out to me. The website where we saw it said that Heidi is short for Adelheid. My great-grandmother's name is Adelaide, so that adds some additional meaning to the name.

After she was born and we were all settled down, I was looking at her face trying to figure out which one of our names was her. I tested each one, and the other ones just weren't right, but when I thought about Heidi and looked at her I knew that was the one. I turned to Ryan apprehensively and said, "I think she's a Heidi." And Ryan nodded his head because he knew that was the right name too. I was glad that both of us had independently felt that Heidi was the right name.

Ryan told her to stick out her tongue twice if she wanted to be Heidi. She stuck her tongue out five times. I guess she approves!
