In case you weren't aware, Kevin is an active, curious, determined child. And the kitchen is one of the most interesting places there is. This means that every time I open the dishwasher or the fridge, he's there to take everything out and make messes and be in my way. And he loves to eat the newspapers in the recycling box and mango skins out of the garbage, which is not cool. I have great memories of playing with the pots and pans in the kitchen growing up, but our kitchen is too small to share with an active baby, especially when you've lost 1/4 of the floor space if you open the dishwasher. I got tired of this a long, long time ago and knew that I wanted a gate. A really good, tall gate that swings open and closed, not a cheap gate that I would have to step over every time I wanted into the kitchen.
So, yesterday we welcomed a
Dreambaby Extra Tall Swing Close Gate into our home. Yes, it's more expensive, but like I said, I wanted a really good gate.

At any rate, so far he is actually pretty excited about the gate. He's so thrilled about the interesting new thing he can use to stand up that he hasn't noticed that he's being locked out of the kitchen. I'm a little surprised, because I thought he'd be upset that he couldn't come in. This gate is going to make life a lot easier.

Yea for a good solution! It easier to do some sort of baby proofing than to have the endless frustrations of having to stop or clean up after the baby. :)
The only way I've figured out how to load a video is to go into Blogger settings and to change my blog back to the old format--then do a post with the video and post it--and then go back and change the blog setting back to the new editing setting. ? It's kind of round about, but it works. Hopefully they'll figure out how to add videos to the new style!!
Very cute. We should have gotten a gate in our last apartment in San Diego. Would have made the kitchen much more usable. I had a funny experience today with baby-proofing:
I've had the sewing machine out so I can work on Clarissa's costume for Trek this summer. Today after play school, Dan couldn't keep his hands off it, so I finally put it in the garage. He can't get into the garage since there's a doorknob cover over the doorknob. It's a white plastic thing that you have to grip hard in order to turn the doorknob and he can't operate it. Or so I thought.
I left him playing in the family room while I was in the front room. A little later I heard some strange noises, so I went in the family room to find that he had broken the doorknob cover off the doorknob, opened the door, put the doorknob cover back on, lugged the sewing machine out of the garage, plugged it in, and was exploring all the different parts.
Outsmarted by a two-year-old!
